MusicalCriticism.com was established in March 2007 by Dominic McHugh and Agnes Kory. The aim was to fill a niche: whereas newspapers and many other websites favoured short reviews that communicate the reviewers' opinions in a couple of hundred words or so, we wanted to assess events in more depth and with a more balanced eye. The other criterion was that all our writers were to have either full academic or practical qualifications in music or musicology.
As of this writing (May 2009) we now have over ten regular writers and four editors, covering a wide range of operas, concerts, musicals, CDs and DVDs. We also produce a large number of interviews and news items, as well as competitions and other features.
We hope you enjoy the site. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at editor@musicalcriticism.com.
